SPOILER!!
So I realized that Woodbine Chance actually has a connection to Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes! Arlo Chance is hung when Snow is a Peacekeeper. This is when the girl Lil starts begging for his life to be spared and he tells her to run, hence the possible inspiration for the Hanging Tree!! Crazy how this subtle connection leads to the boy that Haymitch replaces!!

Really loving that death has a name and that she's a woman! A lot of death depictions are male so this makes it more menacing and mysterious of who death can truly look like! Definitely a different take than I expected for Lauren's final novella!

Less than one month until this book comes to life and I bawl my eyes out! Nevertheless I want to return to this before seeing it on the big screen so the story is fresh in my mind!! Round two here we come!

"To a monster, the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to himself."

btw cathy is soooooo sneaky and manipulative!! Her character, right off the bat, is so complex that even when she's manipulating someone in the story, she is also manipulating you, the reader!

Focusing on Adam's POV at the beginning of his and his brother's conflicts makes Charles's outbursts much more confusing! This felt so different because, in the show, we could clearly see how jealous Charles was of his brother. In the novel, you have no idea.

This is like if Fourth Wing and Skyward had a baby lol! Also, I am already obsessed with Lee and Annie! They are adorable!

So intrigued to read this story after watching the show! Yes, I know I'm doing things a little backwards, but going into the show, I knew that the story would be different than the book.
In addition, I am very interested in studying this in a more academic sense, to identify the retelling of Cain and Abel and its translation to Steinbeck's story on the ideas of who is truly evil and who is truly good.

Loving this story so far and how the sisters can travel between Elfhame and the human world! It's giving dark Narnia vibes, and I'm here for it!

"Then he reads the list of past District 12 victors. In seventy-four years, we've had exactly two. Only one is still alive. Haymitch Abernathy, a paunchy, middle-aged man, who at this moment appears hollering something intelligible, staggers onto the stage, and falls into the third chain. He's drunk. Very."

Let's remind everyone that that day is his birthday :(

I am LOVING this so far! The academia vibes with a hint of Roman lingo and world-building, PLUS a Star Wars-like magic system. So creative and immersive!
