Granted I’m not the best equipped to review dark romance, I do enjoy them from time to time—although it requires a damn good plot to counterbalance some of the craziness.
There was no disconnecting that little voice in my head this time though, you know the one? THE VOICE OF REASON. Because one thing was for sure, the heroine required a much too important amount of “suspending all disbelief” to appreciate the ride.

Friends have been recommending this book for years. I guess I wasn't feeling reading about a dad making the move on his son's girlfriend but all the high ratings kept me curious these past years. Surely there was more to it than a basic age gap romance?
After finally giving in years after, I'm sad to report curiosity killed the cat. The only thing this book has going is, indeed, the age gap.

This one was WILD 🫣. I did not expect half of the drama though I couldn't look away. I enjoyed the writing but admittedly grew tired of the many tragedies revolving around Emma's life. Not enough romance in this story spanning several decades and some shortcuts a bit too convenient for my liking. CW for child neglect, parental abuse, child death, domestic abuse, drug addiction, sexual assault...

LOVED this one. A much entertaining spooky romance. Gothic lite? Great leads, lively dialogues and so much humor! Special mention for the women friendship, family dynamics and the dogs! Slow start but paradoxically quickly engrossing and very hard to put down. I wasn't ready for the cliffhanger or the story to stop. I could have read hours more. I can't wait for the next instalment.

DNF @ 55% This is my third time trying on this author and I must resign myself: she isn't for me. The premise sounded like something I would truly enjoy though.

Reread 2023. Great escort romance. Short story with captivating storytelling, endearing and relatable characters. Special mention for the erotically and emotionally charged steamy scenes.
I wish this was a full novel. This could be the start of my great Jackie Ashenden binge 2023. I NEED MORE!

This book was absolute bonkers. No, not the good kind.

Such a trite story. Absolute drivel with unpalatable characters.
"I reach over, opening the drawer of my nightstand, feeling around for the condoms I have there just in case. Not that I ever planned on fucking Lily, but a man always has to be prepared for anything and everything, including a pussy so sweet you'd give your last breath to be inside."

Meh. I'm mostly easy when it comes to this author but this one felt lackluster. It was alright but similar to a few of her previous books without the family and friends dynamics Harlow usually delivers with brio.

What's more embarrassing though? The book or the fact I was worse than Sloane and her inability to take a fucking hint? The whole affair was beyond tired. The romance, the pairing, the plot, the drama twists—the redundancy of it all. So disappointing.

The many anachronisms in this lusty historical romance with over the top banter and caricatural phonetic Scottish spelling shouldn't upset me but "fook" if they didn't.
This felt like reading a contemporary in period costume and I need a modicum of decorum that I'm reading a historical romance.
This is going to the DNF pile I think.

Yeah, Elsie Silver just does it for me and I've been enjoying going through her entire backlist. Really liked the paralleling between Vaughn and his temperamental dark horse, DD. Absolutely adored Miss Billie Black! Great chemistry and vera nice surge of sexy times after a bout of "will they/won't they" between a no nonsense heroine and grumpy hero.

I liked it. I didn't love it but also I read it in less than a day so there is that.
Still, I enjoyed this more than this author's last dozen releases. Not much of a plot beside the mundane getting to know each other and getting over past trauma. So don't come expecting MC dudes riding at dawn flipping shit up. It's very... domestic, lol. I really like Core and Hellen and their dog and their HGTV channel IYKYK

DNF— I don't care about any of what is happening. Sorry, book, it's probably me.

Not the main characters complaining about their respective previous vanilla partners then acting out their ultimate kinky fantasies in the most vanilla way there is. No substance, vanilla fluff. But yeah sure, there's a lot of smoking hot sex between Ellie and Gabe.
No diss but this must be third book by this author I've tried this year in which a small dog has more character development than the heroine.

Enjoyed my first Anna Bennett and glad the content makes justice to this gorgeous sunny cover.

There is no redeeming the male character at this stage. Just no. He’s an idiot and there’s no hope for him. Incidentally I’m DNF’ing this one out of sheer annoyance. If male stupidity was a book, it would be this one.

Overall I enjoyed this a lot but it severely lacked food porn. For a book with a male character chef at a fancy restaurant this is truly a missed opportunity. It didn't lack steam though so I guess people out for spice will love this.
One thing: I'm expecting a talented chef at fancy restaurant to master kitchen staples. Grave offense here, Aiden didn't know how to make... PANCAKES. Odious. Gross. Ridiculous.

What the author calls an inverted/twisted Beauty & The Beast retelling reads more like discombobulated fairytales with cameos from any/all our childhood faves. I very much like the idea but there are many incongruities and too much predictability with no finesse in the story twists preventing me to take any of it seriously. The villains are grotesque in their obviousness. It's not bad but it's not great either.

Stacy Reid never disappoints. Perfect quicky for my short attention span of late. I would have kept reading if this was a full novel, nevertheless, it made for an entertaining and satisfying read. Great chemistry between Henrietta and Simon!

75% and there’s still no intelligence to be found. I hope no one’s reading this for the mystery plot 🙃
