If you take the sum of the parts that have influenced Mr Jordan in the writing of this novel, you would get something better than this. As the first book in a series, it does well to introduce the characters and the world, but so little of consequence has happened, and I'm almost done. Traveling is the most boring part of any adventure story, and this book is thick with it. I might read the rest of the series, still.
