I’m actually enjoying the story a lot more than anticipated! I knew that it was Faye fantasy but took place in more of a sci-fi world type deal. I’ve been apprehensive, but I am enjoying the story. It also feels really good to get back into Sarah J. Maas’s rating style because it just flows so perfectly in my head.

I remember reading this book years ago when I was just a kid… I think I was more enamored with the idea of dragon riders then I was actually paying attention to the content so this has been really nice rereading the story. To be fair, I am listening to this… But I also have the physical copy that I’m following along on!

It’s alright… I really don’t like the obvious attempts at suspense when there is nothing suspenseful at the end of each perspective change… like the whole “and you’ll never guess blahblahblah” when it never actually ends up being anything suspenseful… really annoying but I’m intrigued by Ella’s backstory

So far so good, I like the way the chapters are broken up. The shorter chapters have a way of keeping me more engaged. I will say I’m getting kinda tired of the “and you’ll never guess what it was” type sentences at the end of every single chapter. Like they always end with some observation that is purposely vague to build suspense… but after the fourth chapter in a row it’s starting to become annoying…

Okay.. okay… I’m rockin with it so far… not so sure how much I enjoy reading the “child’s” perspective but okay alright….

OKAY LOVING THIS SO FAR really hoping it’s a series honestly

So far so good! This is definitely one of “those romantic novels“… But I’m rocking with it! I like how fast the story is moving it’s keeping me engaged.

I love this book! At first I thought this book was very similar to Verity but thankfully it did not end up taking the route I had imagined. This is my new nightly read and it’s so easy to get lost in the story, I really like this author!

As of right now, I feel like this is a “we don’t talk about Bruno” story line…. But idk just yet! I love mystery books!!

I can’t stop imagining Jonathan Bailey as Laurence and picturing the whole storyline as Bridgerton/HouseOfTheDragon combo. I’m loving it and I love the whole “PT. I” “PT. II” “PT. III” of it all.

Okay eating this up already. Love how fast paced the story is! We were up and flying in the first chapter! I’m interested to see how the historical element ties into the fantasy element of this story. I wanted to save this for my vacation but I think I’m gonna have it finished before I’ve even packed my bags

I definitely thought I was gonna have this book read for my research paper but it turns out I submitted that last Sunday and I don’t think I’m 25% of the way through the book?
I’m usually more of a fiction reader, but I understand the significance behind all the analysis, all the statistics, all the names and dates and places etc.
And it’s obviously incredibly heavy material, so I’m not eating ifkyk

So far so good!
There was a lot of context to get through in the very beginning but it’s different this time because I know how much context matters, I know the world this takes place in, and I’ve done some research already on the AIDS epidemic. So I’m not necessarily world building, I’m more diving deeper into what I’ve already had experience with.

This book is perfect for me right now. These essays and chapters are basically following the curriculum I’m learning in my History of the USA since 1865 class. It’s so nice to be able to read more and learn more about the myths that really spark controversy in the warped history of our country.

I’m on page 317 and I just have to say… I kind of expected more from the story by this point? Like we’re over 300 pages in and I don’t feel like anything has really happened.… I’m not really sure how else to describe it. I thought Onyx storm would have more answers to the cliffhanger from the last book by now… It is certainly not living up to the hype yet….

Also I love the passcode to the lock🥺 made me wanna cry honestly
