Chapter 1 is setting up the book with Amory’s youth. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s prose is beautiful.

The first chapter felt a little all over the place and it is very scientific. Hope it feels a bit more like a story soon.

LOVING the specificity in language in the introduction. Very good read for this moment in time.

I appreciate her speaking on how her daughter experienced racism for the first time.

There are some good nuggets in here. I appreciate how the author focuses on herself instead of telling the reader how to fix their life.

Loving Ms. Chapelwhite. She’s sassy and setting up the themes of don’t judge without getting to know someone first. I can relate to the themes of ostracisation that have been shown on the island. This is going to be right up my street!

Each character is very distinct just in the way the author’s sentence structure is. It’s very skilful. The exposition is taking a bit, but I am very interested to see how meeting the children will go.

Right off the bat, I love the writing style. It feels very British, which is a huge compliment as the author is American.

I felt the chapter Karma didn’t have enough Karma in it

I gasped when I found out Kali died

The first part of the chapter didn’t seem completely necessary, but that was completely made up by some of the beautiful descriptions about the dives!

The author’s writing is very descriptive! You can see it right on the page!
