I was very excited to read this book because it got such great reviews. I thought it would be lighthearted and uplifting. I felt disappointed and annoyed when I realized how dark and depressing it was. But I’m now seeing that we needed that dark and depressing theme to reflect on Phoebe’s arc and how it turns into not only a lighthearted and uplifting novel but an empowering one.
