Now it is a strange thing, but things that are good to have and days that are good to spend are soon told about, and not much to listen to; while things that are uncomfortable, palpitating, and even gruesome, may make a good tale, and take a deal of telling anyway

My mom is almost done with this and recommended that I read it too. I’m also David Fincher-pilled, loved the movie, and loved Gillian Flynn’s adapted screenplay of her own book, so I figured I’d love the book itself. Pretty awesome first four chapters; Flynn gets to write in a smarmy and writerly way, because her two narrators are smarmy and writerly. If I were a writer I’d want to do that too

Got into a sort of noir mood after rewatching Shane Black’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys. Two hilarious movies that both satirize and pay tribute to the noir genre. The next movie of that ilk I want to watch is Robert Altman’s The Long Goodbye, a Raymond Chandler adaptation, but I thought I’d read some of his stuff first. Witty, semi-satirical, semi-serious, and exactly what I was hoping for so far

115 pages and four chapters in. Loving it. Characteristically hilarious, and so far hasn’t confused me too much, with the exception of chapter three being an absolute mindfuck. I’d gotten like 100 pages into Hamnet, which I’m hoping to finish before Chloe Zhao’s lauded movie adaptation comes out, but after One Battle After Another I had a Pynchon itch that needed scratching

We’re back. I’m taking a break from Anna Karenina to read this, because I’ve been running through all of Paul Thomas Anderson’s filmography, and his Inherent Bice adaptation is basically all I have left

I haven’t had many chances to read since starting this book, but I’ve been absolutely hooked every time I’ve opened it up. Tolstoy’s style is very different from Dostoyevsky’s but equally as engrossing. I don’t hate Vronksy anymore, but Levin is easily my favorite so far

‘I hate everybody, including you and myself,’ his eyes answered”

Very amusing book so far

I read 12 pages and about a billion words from different companion materials

Humor and beauty permeate the prose, I was gobsmacked by the last two pages of the chapter. Just an unbelievably talented guy

I was also shocked to recently discover he’s not only alive, but due to publish a book later this year (around the time PT Anderson’s Vineland adaptation will come out)

I gave up trying to finish the book before the movie after about 15 minutes on Saturday

The movie was incredible, although it had massive spoilers for the book. One of the most beautiful-looking movies I’ve ever seen. The next night I watched Atonement, also starring Kiera Knightley and directed by Joe Wright, and I fear I will never recover

This book is incredible by the way

3 chapters in, very strange but also funny so far. I’m reading this because Paul Thomas Anderson is adapting it into a movie starring Leo DiCaprio and the trailer was amazing

Read about half the introduction (I stopped when it started to spoil stuff) and Part One (of seven, counting the epilogue). I’m absolutely gripped. Can definitely see how this sprang out of his ideas for “Notes From Undergound”. I struggled a bit to get through “The Double” but, like “White Nights” and part two of “Notes From Underground”, these first ~100 pages flew by
