I didn't realize it was written in the 40s which made a lot of sense trying to picture how easy it was to buy a house and move around lol . I felt the writing was pretty straightforward and didn't impact enough to linger on my mind. But the story, pretty good, raw and to the point of that yozos life was like. Because the translation is dry you have to do the heavy work and build the feelings and empathy yourself.
