The pacing is pretty good for the mainland sections, but the island sections can go kind of slow. I’m intrigued to see the impending doom of the students on the island. I’m just not sure how Seiji’s death ties to all of this…if he’s even dead at all… I suspect that Seiji is still on the island taking his revenge and killed the gardener to use him to fake his death.

So much has happened and the writing is so good. Chapter 17 is unironically my favorite. Dorian Gray is such a complex character and Harry is still such an interesting character. I hate him but he really is charming in a sense.

This is SO my jam. Like Uketsu’s previous books, this has been such a page-turner and I am hooked onto the peculiarities of these buildings. I can’t wait to see how everything is connected!!

It just got so interesting. I can’t wait to see how Dorian leads his life after leaving the burden of shame with his portrait. These are very good, complex characters, but I would never personally be close with them. They are terrible men.

On page neo got my back 😛 Anyways, this second act made me so uncomfortable and thoroughly engaged. The brother-in-law’s inner monologues are disturbing, but I can’t stop reading I haveee to figure out how this all correlates. I’m so excited to start the last act.

Harry might be my favorite for the same reason Dorian can never hate him. I might as well be sitting next to Dorian Gray and listening to Harry’s sophisticated theories. Also I suspect Basil is gay for Dorian—he is not taking DG’s marriage news very well. Very fun reading about Harry’s thoughts, learning about Sybil’s situation, and seeing the drama unfold.

She likes WHO NOW?? Is she deadass crushing on her potential boyfriend’s dad… I was with her until she said he was HOT hot… he can’t be endgame…right… also honestly Nasir seems less mature? He’s hiding something about his dad, but also, I can’t get myself to fully like Nasir. There’s something about him…

Maybe not the best book to read at night, but it’s so intriguing. There’s a constant unsettling feeling, as if something terrible is about to reveal itself. There’s descriptions of Younghye’s blood-thirsty thoughts and actions are so unsettling yet engaging. A page-turner so far!

I’m really rooting for Feyi. I hope she gets her spark back and be at peace with herself. Nasir is okay but I’m a bit skeptical—I don’t really trust him. He didn’t open the car door for her which feels like a red flag especially because his intention is a date-to-marry kind of relationship. #whathappenedtochivalry

Okay this chapter was a little less engaging but once I reached the last few pages…yeah the tears were flowing… I wasn’t the biggest fan of this chapter but the last few pages really redeemed it—I loved it. I honestly could relate to Hirai as an older sister and as someone who can be quite cynical quite often. Kei is definitely pregnant also…right?

Oh my god this book is so fun. It involves so many interesting ideas about identity, what we value as individuals, and the expense of authenticity. I love all three characters with Lord Henry being my favorite. He’s very dow-to-earth but has the most interesting takes on the purpose of life and how one goes about it.

Oh my god. Just bawled my eyes out on the amtrak. This chapter was beautiful. I felt the fear of losing memories of the person you loved so deeply with this chapter. The pacing of the chapter was brilliant and I was so moved by Fusagi’s words and actions. The unraveling of Fusagi’s intentions and love for Kohtake was so wonderful to read.

Not as many plot twists as Strange Pictures. Some of the information—or more precisely, speculation—is sort of predictable. Definitely not all of it is predictable, but it’s all baseless assumptions. I want to see if they’re right. It’s definitely a little different from Strange Pictures in aspects like writing style and storytelling. Can’t wait to finish!

There’s three of them left: Vera, Lombard, and Blore. Deep down I wish they could all escape the island. There are still so many unanswered questions. Why these people? How did the person know about each of their secrets? How are they pulling this off? Is this a dark fantasy of the murderer? I can’t wait to find out.
