SGJ said this was the book of the decade, so naturally I’m locked in

SGJ has perfected the Southern outlaw. The protagonist is a young boy, and his voice is so distinct, so tinged with desperation to fit in and be a true werewolf/criminal/outlaw like his aunt and uncle. It breaks my heart.

Super dark but riveting. I love how it’s grounded in history but it’s not didactic or boring. SGJ is one of my favs

I cherish an outlaw woman!! This book also made me think about how life-giving female friendships are when they are unencumbered by men.

Never read anything like this in my whole life. Some of the most repugnant characters to ever grace the page. This will make you shudder to yourself and think about what lengths you would go to make sure your bloodline survives. I think that in order to survive brutality, you must become a little brutal yourself.

This is my third time trying to read this book… I love my girl Louise but I just can’t do it #DNF
