“both daggers suddenly in his hands, moving as unexpectedly as the skirling winds. No one will ever write of the strange poetry of that battle, the Cassiline's ballet of snow and steel and death in the Skaldic hinterlands. Figures moved like wraiths in the snow-veiled clearing, only the clash of arms giving the deadly lie to their dance.”

"There is a certain court poet who conceives a hopeless passion for the wife of a certain innkeeper, whom he addresses in his rhymes as the Angel of Night's Door. She pays me in coin to tell him to go away and bother her no more, and he pays me in tales to tell him how she looked when she said it. I will learn for you what I can, Phèdre." - Hyacinthe

Part 1: This is slowly becoming my favorite fantasy series. The magic system is super unique. The characters are crystal clear to me and they’re not written to be godlike already from the get go. I can also keep up with who is who. Sometimes, I find fantasy writers to introduce too much and a reader can easily get lost. Brandon is so talented with his writing that I have forgotten my body. I am fully in Luthadel.

“All power is one in source and end, I think. Years and distances, stars and candles, water and wind and wizardry, the craft in a man's hand and the wisdom in a tree's root: they all arise together. My name, and yours, and the true name of the sun, or a spring of water, or an unborn child, all are syllables of the great word that is very slowly spoken by the shining of the stars. There is no other power.” -Ged

“Mara felt pain within; when she should feel triumph, she instead knew grief. For in this one moment she saw that Buntokapi’s potential for greatness, now glimpsed like the hint of sunlight through clouds, should be wasted so soon in death.” This paragraph destroyed me. The stakes are so high at this point and this really had an effect on me.

I love this quote because I feel it’s hard to portray sarcasm through writing but I can read the tone in this so easily. Then her response was: ‘Can you think of anything else?’ snapped Sabriel.

He could have confined himself to breaking a few of the lesser stones, somewhere far away, but that would only give him a tiny area…”

"Farewell!" they cried, "wherever you fare, till your eyries receive you at the journey's end!" That is the polite thing to say among eagles.
"May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks," answered Gandalf, who knew the correct reply.

I love how this sets up readers to feel as if there is already a whole lot of lore that completely makes sense. Like eagles speaking their language.

Now I understand where ACOTAR came from. The whole plot is exactly the same. This is such an incredible fairytale and it brings me so much joy reading it. I am in love with Emerys and I want Quinn to succeed. There is so much humor in this, as well as just enough battle scenes. I think it may be one of my favorite fairytales I’ve ever read.

I feel like the story has slowed down a lot at this point. Not much is happening here and I seem to have trouble wanting to read it. I will push ahead but I have faith it will all come together nicely. It’s very whimsical and cute and I smile a lot as whatever is going on. The oversized suit got a cackle and Calcifer still has my heart.

I’m noticing alot of referencing to her being some sort of bird. The whole concept of the cage and her being a “Goldfinch” all surround that idea. I think it’s a bit more predictable than I like. Slade tells her “don’t fall” but “fly” when she’s taken to her edge or “tipped over”.
