Written in the late 1980s, the Bonfire of the Vanities remains relevant today. Dickensian in scope, the tale prominently features down-home racial agitation, the gaping poor-rich divide, insatiable greed, sensational news stories, and sincere insincerity. The only thing lacking are iPhone videos and social media! I found the story fun and irreverant and a great escape
