Quite radical for its time. A woman wanting control over her own autonomy was unheard of. Not being able to live an individual life without feeling possessed by another can be suffocating, so I understand why she felt so stuck and helpless when she didn’t have enough soul to carry out her desires or to overcome her oppression. Although it took me a while to get into, I ended up hanging onto every last word.
