While the book sticks to the usual vampire mythical lore, it uses the transformation and powers of the vampire as an opportunity for the women characters. It's a way for them to gain mobility and power against a world that limits them or targets them as prey.

I can see how Maria went into her villain era. After living her life being unsupported, and so restricted, she doesn't hold back at all as a vampire.

Now that I am about halfway in, my first impression is that the audiobook, with the dual povs are actually pretty good.

I can't say that I like the fmc since she can be immature and rude. But I love how the other characters will not hesitate to call her out on it.

this is the most cottagecore book i ever read

I enjoy reading along with the audiobook. It's wonderfully vivid in both the settings, characters and plot.
