In dire need of some dense sci-fi so I'm getting into this again. Will be interesting to experience again having read the whole cantos now.

Much of the criticism of the cantos as a whole revolves around how Simmons retcons a bunch of lore and plot-points as he goes, but I can already see how some of the twists and turns have been setup or eluded to in the first chapter.

It's been a long time coming. Tolkien's writing is so fun; less than three chapters in and we've covered almosy thirty years of plot and thousands of years lore. But also "like an express train" is a strangely anachronistic metaphor to describe a magical firework.

I first read 'Guts', one of the poems from this novel when I was 15, so Haunted has been on my TBR for a long time. Chuck Palahniuk is the guy who wrote Fight Club - the novel upon which the movie was based. I have not seen the film.

Binging some Alistair Reynolds because a bunch of his novels are free on Audible until the end of the month.

Going to leave this one at 99% for now; I think I need another read-through as I feel as though I've missed some of the aspects.
Certainly the scifi concepts are unique and exciting, but I either missed the "Lem-ian" psychological aspects which I enjoyed so much kn Solaris, or they were not present.
I have the paperback, might have to actually "read" this one.

Been wanting to get onto this for a while; Audible finally released a new copy at the start of May so here we are. Judging a translation is always tricky... but the 2023 game was a 9/10 so I'm interested to compare.

Having seen the Netflix show first first, I must use it as a point of comparison.

At first the two seem almost identical, except the book often reads like a teenage boy's power fantasy.

However, as the story and the mystery progress, certain important details begin to emerge, and Morgan offers some rich perspectives on slavery, what it means to be human, and the consequences of pushing technology too far.
