I may just reread the Sutcliff adaptation. Shelved until 2015.

Periodically gets lost (the physical book). Love St. Cassian. I will return to this after it shows up again.

I kept skirting around the chapters with the darkest subject matter. It will be awhile before I get back to this book. Martinez is a great storyteller, though

Wonderfully absorbing. I can read it in small doses, which works well for me.

Very dry--doubtless useful for students of the Teutonic Knights, but not so good for those interested in what the archaeology indicates about the northern heathens and their way of life. Christiansen uses only written sources for his book, and that's all very well for what he is attempting to do , but not so good for my purposes.

Still skipping. They're still gossiping about Sir Alexander Macdonald and trying to find books to read. Dr. Johnson gets irritable when he is hungry.

I'm dipping into this in anticipation of the Scottish plebiscite on independence. Skipping around, Boswell and Dr. Johnson have suffered the so-called hospitality of Sir Alexander and argued with someone over the provenance of Ossian.

The edition I'm reading is a Literary Guild book with an original edition publication of 1936. So, sometime after 1936.

Titus, Flay and the Doctor pursue Steerpike and his monkey Satan through the corridors. This venture cannot end well.

Titus's tenth birthday is celebrated, and the seasons pass.

Irma hosts a Soiree.

A conclave of the pedagogues. I fear for Titus.

Still in the mid-400s. The greatest, rancorous dispute in Gormanghast comes to a kind of conclusion. The language is so dense and beautiful that I had to read much of it twice, or more.

c. page 440 of the Ballantine edition. Many thuds have been heard at Titus's first birthday celebration.

I'm reading a different edition than the one that ends at 396 pages. The Sign of the Unicorn edition is around 500 pages. I'm still in the 200 page range.

Steerpike has now fallen over the windowsill into Fuchsia's attic.

When summer arrives, heroic fantasy lures me away from what's meant to be more substantive fare. Thanks to GR member Mark Monday for the reminder of the compelling nature of Wagner's writing.

Reading has kind of stalled since smashing my head last week. Then misplaced the book. It's found now, though.

I have nearly finished this book, with just two or three stories to go, but became disgruntled with Wolfe after reading "Memorare" in Best SF 13 q.v.
