Krakauer 's own story of a similar journey he made himself makes this a really good read and adds a compelling perspective to the story. That part really stuck with me in viewing Mccandless's story!

Apart from my rant on Thoreau, Krakauer's writing is really good.

His chapters on other young men with similar stories to Chris present a good perspective on the way young men feel a pull to adventure and danger, and the lengths they go to scratch that itch. Krakauer presents this story from all angles, which is really nice.

I picked this up as my "fun read" thinking it'd be an intriguing story I could get lost in. Boy has that been far from the truth.

As someone who's read Thoreau (whose thoughts inspired Chris Mccandless), this is an example of the logical conclusion of his worldview. Leave your family, friends, and future to do whatever your heart pleases, because it told you so. That's the new dream, no more settling down. Is it?

I read this sporadically when I find it hard to write. There's some good inspiration here, and it's fun to read. It's like sitting with a brilliant friend who is going into so many side tangents and stories.

What a wonderful book so far. This book is "for those who have an incessant desire to learn" and two chapters in, I'm already convicted.

What a dense book full of wisdom, and wisdom that, he reminds us, always points back to the source. Truth is eternal, and ever connected, because the deeper you understand different facts or sects of knowledge, the more you realize it connects to God. He is whom truth flows

This is a.. different take on a dystopian novel. But it's fascinating so far

Enger presents a simple, quiet, small town life so beautifully in this book. The surprises are small and just right, and overly relatable. I'll be sad when it ends, and I no longer get to keep up with the inhabitants of Greenstone.
