Gothic to a T. I see that it draws inspiration from Wuthering Heights and Little Shop of Horrors. It’s deeply disturbing, with characters who are all flawed in nasty ways. The atmosphere is dark, humid, and heavy. It circles the question of what it truly means to be human.
I love any horror that crawls out of a bog ‼️🦟

Very eerie and fun so far. It reminds me of Annihilation with its fungal horror and nameless characters. The story follows nine children and is told collectively through all of their points of view, which feels genuinely unique. I’m really enjoying it.

I made a New Year’s resolution not to DNF any books, but every day I have to fight to get through this 600 page horseshit, I fucking regret it more and more. A couple hundred pages ago, I was at least having fun hate-reading it. Now it’s like ripping off my own fingernails just to keep going. It is painfully predictable, and I truly do not care if both the main characters die because I hate them that much.

Alright, I’ve gotten to the freak nasty shit. I can see why people are feral for this. I admit, it was good. Was it worth all of what you have go through to get to this? No. And throughout it, the main character still makes me want to her to shut the fuck up. I hate this bitch so bad. But I did enjoy this chapter 👍

The MMC literally keeps threatening to rape her using this blood oath he trapped her in, and she keeps telling him to stop but secretly wants it? It’s not sexy, it’s uncomfortable, weird, and incessant. I truly hate their dynamic. Kingfisher has no redeeming qualities besides being physically attractive, and the main character acts like a pissy 13 year old girl. It’s not cute or fun.

It somehow keeps getting worse. I tried to keep an open mind. I hate every character and every interaction they have with one another. The main character isn’t witty or sharp in the way the author seems to think she is, she’s just annoying and cringey. A lot of what she says/does doesn’t make much sense, and it all comes off as painfully try-hard.
I refuse to give up until I make it at least halfway through.

This book is so trash and I am so torn whether to DNF it or not, but I’m pushing through to see if if there’s any freak nasty stuff that will make it worth it

At first, I wasn’t into this. I thought it was turning into some Nanny McPhee shit. After a few chapters, I was having fun. I love the main character, the world, and the faeries. It was charming, funny, and a little dark all at once. I just got to a part that touched on some SUPER HEAVY topics. I put the book down in shock. There were elements that led up to this, but I still didn’t expect it. I’m obsessed.

I sat down with this book and didn’t look up again until I’d reached page 100. Within the first 20 pages, there were descriptions that genuinely made my stomach upset. I’ve read other books with just as much gore, but none of them have affected me the way this one has. I find myself constantly cringing in disgust as the main character and her mother indulge every horrific impulse they have. I love it!!

I appreciated the Preface, where the author shares how his full-time job working with survivors of domestic violence informed the story. It explains that the book contains violence against women, but not as a cheap plot device (something fantasy books often do). The setting and main character are reminiscent of Between Two Fires, but the story still stands apart.
It’s also pretty gory. Love it so far.

So much peeing in this book. The main character is very strange, very hypersensitive to sound. Lots of allegories with fruits and vaginas. Lesbians (?)
I don’t think i have ever read a book like this but it is so fucking cool.

This is my first “dark academia romance” book and I’m super into it. It’s set at Trinity College in Dublin during the early 90s. It’s pretty much the same as our world, save that there’s a mysterious fatal plague going on that makes plants grow inside of the victims.
I like that the main character is a 28 yr old grad student instead of being freshly 18 (the love interest is a professor at the college).

I was wary because of the hype around this book, but so far it has lived up to it. For a new romantasy book, the world building, the characters, their relationships, and the atmosphere have surpassed my expectations. I am so obsessed
