Not to sound like a moron but I wish it had more pictures. The descriptions of the buildings and construction would benefit from imagery and diagrams to help truly understand the scale. The murderous aspects are also being oddly skimmed over as allusions to horrible deeds but with none of the interesting details.

I’m a little miffed they glossed over the HUAC stuff and their big fight. It was barely mentioned, and he claims the exact cause was unknown which is not true. I suppose it’s fair to say that political differences were enough but what about Jim’s involvement with Hoover or the way actors were affected by the Blacklisting? A lot of broad strokes being painted here.

I love the anecdotes from Jimmy and the people who were closest to him, and I adore the way the author writes Jimmy's drawl, I can hear it as I read! Great stories that are making me laugh, I'm enjoying it so much on my library lend I've purchased my own copy.

This is miles and miles better than the Marc Elliot biography I was reading.

No I've decided I dislike this author's approach... Do I finish this or try another? The focus seems to be on gossip and reviews rather than Jimmy's actual experiences and stories. I understand he lived a fairly private life but still! Also I know they're old films but I was planning on watching some I hadn't seen and he's spoiling literally everything...

The writing has gotten much more tolerable and certain things are presented in very funny ways. I am enjoying the anecdotes and storytelling of what Jimmy was up to and the rumours flying around him, the friendship with Henry Fonda, his sexual escapades (a lot of focus on this for a distinctly non-sexual person??) but man does this author love commas! I write like that too but sometimes it's distracting.

The introduction is putting me off, the author seems a bit up his own arse trying to wax poetic and losing me along the way. I hope the content overpowers this writing style cause right now I'm struggling.
