Quarter of the way through, and we got people smoking hashish!

Damn, Faria is really making Dantes look like an idiot in this chapter; he is Sherlocking Dantes imprisonment in the span of minutes, after Dantes has had years to think about these things. I guess he's just naive. Also have a feeling Faria is not long for this world, at this point I'm taking everything he says as fact unless proven otherwise.

I keep telling myself I will finish this book one day. One day.
It's really intriguing, but so far mostly a slow burn.

There are a lot of really interesting stories within this book, but I am wondering if there will be an overarching connection point between them. So far, it seems a bit disjointed.

I really enjoy the way that Merton can mesh eastern thought with western preconceptions and cultural Christianity; he is great at breaking down complex ideas without watering them down in the process.
