I have browsed the spines of hundreds of books and each time I have found myself inexplicably drawn to the writings of Native American and Indigenous poets. Recently, I have begun The Death of Sitting Bear by Scott Momaday, his work is profound, deeply personal and truly speaks to the depths of one’s soul. I hope to own more of his work in time.

I kept forgetting to update my progress here!

It only takes one small cloud
in an otherwise blue sky
across the sun to make me shiver
to raise the hairs on my arms
and I wonder,
would I be able to survive
in the islands North, I wonder,
would I be able to keep my body
warm there
where lay my family bones?

I read manga far too often I fear…

"Guangkuta 'Sugpianek' ap'rtaakiikut cuumi, nutaan ap'raaraakut Alutiit" —they used to call us 'the real people' before, but now we are called Alutiiq. I now understand this work to be an anthology - a collection of poetry, letters, records and photographs all weaved together to piece together the history of the Chabitnoy family, descendants of the Unangax̂ (Aleut) tribe of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska.

Information being redacted in a book of poetry is interesting, it’s structure is a bit unexpected as well!

Decided to continue checking out poetry to keep my desire to read every day alive whilst I finish the longer novels on my list! I also intend to research how to give decent commentary, so I may share my thoughts on said literature — and ensure my own comprehension of the books I read!
