Author uses "inks" in reference to the colors used for a 14th century manuscript. I'm going to lose my damn mind here This book came out in 2021. A casual bit of research would show that Illuminators then used a type of tempera, made with egg white as binder. Illuminated books in this period used both inks AND paints for coloration.

I'm getting off my soapbox now.

I do believe I've found a new series! Great character builds, believable procedures, an unusual cause for the MC angst. Can recommend.
