A little confused on what’s going on! I don’t think i understand the best way to read or approach this but I’ll stick with it

this book is a lil freaky, wasn’t expecting that! not a fan of the flow of consciousness writing style either

A little confused right now but it’s ok! I’m gonna keep taking my time w this one

And not nasty as in eww gross, nasty as in they’re getting down and dirty. It’s not “one arm on neck one arm on frontal”, I’m kind of being dramatic. But I do like Sally Rooney’s storytelling style!

Why is it nasty 😭

Lots of dialogue and switching between perspectives, but I like it!

“… many of us seek community solely to escape the fear of being alone. Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of loving” tea!

She talked about the situation of Nicole Simpson, giving her staying as an example of women staying in dysfunctional and loveless relationships because of her “attachment to a superficially glamorous lifestyle among the rich and famous” but i don’t really agree. In situations with powerful and wealthy men, the material opportunity may be outweighed by the personal dangers that leaving could bring, I’d think.

I think seeing how my perspective of certain chapters, like chapter 5, have changed over time is interesting and inspires introspection almost. Last time i read this book, i followed a more atheistic perspective to spirituality. Now teetering on the edge of Christianity, i have a different view and understanding of the chapter

So far, I like this book! I was aware of Toni Morrison’s style of storytelling when I began the book. When reading this book, it’s important to recognize the historical context in which the book is taking place. This book takes place in the 1800s and during slavery, and so far I would consider this book to almost be a fictional historical horror (in the best way possible)
