I’ve seen so many reviews complaining abt the footnotes in this book and how it’s a sign of poor writing and now I finally have proof that Kuang did it intentionally ahhhh- she added a footnote abt how footnotes are inherently racist/suppress language bc they were used way more in translations into English to the point that you loose the intended rhythm and meaning of the original work. READ CRITICALLY bruh

Can’t decide if I’m offended enough by the boys to put this down or tickled enough by their idiocy and my intrigue abt this matriarchal utopia. For context, it’s written from the perspective of one of three boys exploring this foreign place and they’re super misogynistic and it’s like the women are supposed to teach them super obvious lessons abt sex, so like it’s funny but also kinda sad. Written 1915
