How many books am I going to DNF this year??😭😭😭😭😭

I saw a sign outside a bookshop today that said, "There is no friend as loyal as a book." I pointed at it and laughed. And then said, "No, they betray me all the time." AND I WAS RIGHT!! I can count on one hand how many books haven't betrayed me and this isn't one of them😭😭

Packed this book on a whim. Picked it up on a whim. Devoured it in a day. About 3/5 of the way through and I'm really enjoying it. Beautiful writing. Love the deep setting which I'm personally unfamiliar. I've seen modern China and a whole lot of ancient China, but not 1900s China, which there was a lot more to learn about than I expected. The way this book weaves politics and history into the story is genius!

25% in and they've already told me how it's to end....I mean at least now I can put it down instead of going through all of that for such an awful ending!!! Screw your philosophy and contemplative picture of life. There were so many other options😠

Their monologues might be long winded but they certainly know how to write a hook. Also, I turn the page for an empty one to declare, "Book Two" in bold letters. How... how were those first hundred pages considered a book? That was an exposition.

A two-page footnote on a character from one paragraph that has its own story, much more entertaining in a short time, and after which the narrator proceeds to tell you, 'But you don't need to remember him. That nameless guy some 20-odd pages ago is who really matters.'

I do not understand why people do not like Tom Bombadil. He seems a merry fellow!

The question is not whether this whole thing is truth or fairy tale. It's absolute truth. The question is whether or not you're going to stand up from the dusty ground, get down out of that tree, or leave the cemetery behind.
