Oh wow. Positive impressions so far. Honestly loving the way that the book is peppering in these mysteries and leads to follow. I like the prologue being in second-person, to make the myth of Mr. Magic feel more real and personable. I can imagine what the theme song sounds like.

Heard absolutely amazing things from this book and had been curious about reading it until I heard about the author's association with this book to Canadian Indigenous orphanages that are directly involved with genocide so that's fun. Now that it's a book club book I have a reason to read it.

Yes I did start over because I wanted to annotate the book and goddamn it I should've made one of the annotations and tabs about curiosity. Smh

Wow there are quite a few questionable writing decisions. Not in terms of content, but in terms of word choice. How can a handkerchief be pickled with tears...? Why not sneak down only in socks? I can tell you from experience, Dot, it's so much quieter. Unless shoes were THAT different back in the day, which I doubt.
