The string of chapters I read today are real interesting. I feel like in a film it would be almost impossible to understand something like that but it’s cool to read. I kinda need a breakdown for Beloved’s chapter bc it was kinda confusing but yeah that was pretty interesting

Hopefully I can keep reading today but the story is starting to get more and more abstract while discussing Beloved. Everyone seems to think they’re physically attached to her

This book is so rich. There’s just so much to unpack and divulge into that it kinda slows me down but these characters and their motivations make it interesting. I’ve definitely never read a book like this before

Beloved is such a strange character. Just read ch. 12-14 I think and she’s just so unlike any other ghost I’ve known. It’s really fascinating seeing how other characters react to her

Definitely very interesting. I wasn’t expecting it to be a story including so much magical details but it’s been interesting reading about this era in the US from the perspective of someone away from slavery

There’s a loottt going on but I like it so far. Just very detailed and mythical

The language is just so flowery it’s almost a turn off. This is my second attempt at reading this book and I’m kinda waiting for Catherine to appear but it’s taking a minute. I’m on chapter 3.

Well it’s definitely staying interesting. I think the main character can bring a bit more to the table but the mystery of HOW the murder is happening hasn’t been disclosed. Very curious

Started reading this a few hours ago and I ended up going way faster than I thought I would. My last book was a real drag in comparison.

Anyways, this is the first translation for the book and I feel like I’m missing some more richness so far. 5 chapters deep and I feel like we could go deeper in detail maybe? The incest thing def doesn’t translate well, but I know it’s a culture shift from Japan. Good start

These random little plotlines towards the end are kinda messing with me. The incest subplot? The random letters? The emotional detachment? It’s all feeling a bit confused. Like we’re grasping at straws to keep the story going further

Still like 100 pages to go and idk what more there is to talk about 🫤

This might not be the last time I log today but I wanted to leave this here as a checkpoint. I kinda just feel like it’s dragging a bit more than it needs to right now? Like I’m not sure what more to expect but I have 100s of pages left :/

None of these characters are very likable and tbh if I met any of them in person I wouldn’t even look at them let alone consider them a friend. Not sure why the protagonist likes them either. Richard please stand up.

Definitely read through this way faster than I initially planned. I literally bought the book yesterday but something about the way this is written kept me turning the page despite the plot being a bit flat at the moment.

Very interesting conversations and perspectives on social class. I’m hoping to finish before the end of the year 💪😤
