Chapters 10-11 back to back is some beautiful work from Piper

Chapter 10 of this book is 8 pages long and I think I could probably read it every day for the rest of my life on earth and still not soak in all of the goodness and richness of Christ portrayed within it. My heart swells with affection and appreciation for Him!!!

Just got done reading the introduction. I’ve been thinking again and again that man’s chief need is to comprehend God’s love for us that is manifested fully in Christ, and I think this is where Chan is going. Never read him before, and I’m very excited!

“Jesus Himself—and all that God is for us in Him—is our great reward, nothing less.”

“I am dragged out, kicking and screaming, by my own trust in Christ. And yet it is only in the miraculous power of the Word of God to win that trust, to create the John who understands, the John who trusts Christ.

And what kind of Word is it?

It is the Word of what Christ has done.”

“Those thoughts and feelings, this anguish and distress, that scream and pull, are not going anywhere. And yet, I am.

I am passing through them, passing them by. I am headed somewhere else.

And where?

Out of the Realm of Ceaseless Cognition,
Out of dependence on myself,
Into my dependence on Christ,
Into a future provided by Mercy,
Into the ability to pay attention.”

This is going to be such a difficult read. But I’m praying God uses this to draw me near to Himself :)
