If I was a minor character in a spy novel I simply would not come to a shocking realisation while on the phone to the protagonist, then say I would meet her the next day to explain it to her, no it would have to wait until then, no I can't tell you over the phone.

Enjoying this, but both the answer to whodunnit and the accompanying twist seem pretty obvious at this point. Suspiciously obvious, perhaps?

This has improved substantially since the first book, quite enjoying it now

This is a sequence of four novels; I've finished the first. So far: breezy, pulpy sci-fi with godawful politics. Elegantly written, as is always the case with Vance's novels, but lacks the wit and cleverness of his better work.

Really good so far, the section on emotional labour and the pressure of maintaining a particular persona at work has helped me reflect on some of my own recent experiences.

After a terrifically boring first chapter, this has steadily improved and I'm now finding it genuinely very interesting...
