God I hate this book

I low-key hate this book so much right now bc I'm following a very not feminist girl with a case of pick me itis who seems to have no emotion at all, let alone rage. They should've said apathetic, not bored good god

There's this British chasm when it comes to me and Black British characters who've adopted the uneducated mindset that racism only exists in America.

I'm not sure if this inability to expect racism from non black ppl is true to the author, or if it's supposed to come across as a critique, but I don't believe it can be the latter.

I'm supposed to be liberated through a blk woman who took racism as foreplay?? Why??

The prose and body horror in this are so delicious. Favorite new word is panoply—a complete and impressive collection of things; a splendid display!

One throwaway line to let me know slavery exists in this fantastical world so we know the mc's mom is "a good person" has really taken me out of the story. Afraid I'll never actually like you, fonda lee

Great prose and good pacing so far, inherently interesting main character

A lot of telling over showing so there's really no stream of consciousness. Idk Kim just states what Ji-won is feeling instead of using physical reactions instead or just having her THINK like a normal person. So disappointed in this book
