I usually try to stay away from slavery based books, but I actually enjoyed this historical fiction. It is clear that Sadequa Johnson did her research when bringing these characters to life.

I enjoyed how this book highlighted the struggles that people with invisible disabilities may face. I struggled with reading about self harm, but that doesn’t take away from the beauty of the story.

I actually enjoyed this novel interested in seeing what the next books are going to have in store.
