Every time I've read a book in this series I find myself growling at the writing style yet racing through the pages. This book is no different.

Really enjoying the world de Bodard has created, a lovely mixture of the divine and the corrupt with the intermingling of different cultural beliefs and the repercussions on magical systems. Great stuff!

Love the setting, a great alternate version of the world of empire, the new world and magick (with a K)!

Just got to the end of part 1 and now wish I had the paperback version rather than an audiobook so I can flick back and read some chapters again. Great twist and nicely sprung.

I'm losing sleep because of this book. I enjoyed the first half but the second half is gripping. I can't put it down.

I'm enjoying the story but not the narration. The female narrator is excellent but the male puts strange emphasis on words unsuited to the flow of the piece as if he's recording it line by line without knowing what came before or after. Very strange.
