was looking for a light fun palate cleanser after a not-so-positive prior read and this came highly recommended. i can see why

feels very familiar to the first book, with regards to the sequence of events that have happened thus far. really exciting first few chapters but some moments have been kinda predictable.. i gotta let it cook tho
i’m not even halfway through yet so

taking a break because while i am enjoying reading this book, it can almost feel like it’s dragging a bit at times which is only amplified by the fact that the events pushing the story forward are uninteresting despite being well written.

i’m genuinely struggling to get through this book and this is coming from someone that actually enjoyed the first few chapters. an uncanny amount of cringe. i actually can’t..

also, dain is so overbearing and insufferable. his sole character trait is being “protective” over violet.

started this book in 2023. made it almost halfway through. back 3 yrs later to finish it. love the writing but im still not sure what the story's direction is. what's shadow's motivation and end goal? i'm currently almost 300 pages in and still have no clue. book's kinda dragging a bit. feels like stuff's just happening with no real purpose but i hope there's a point to it all by the end.
