Mofo Bayaz really said Jezal Christ is "easily tricked by flim-flam and quick hands" in the middle of his lecture on history and politics. Gayass is my favorite old man expo dumper, he should teach me politics.

Can't wait for Glokta to delude himself into believing he's unbiased and rational about Carlot dan Eider. Then he internal monologues himself into oblivion, making a big ass mistake. This weekend Carlot will be played in my brain by Rachel McAdams, unga bunga.

Nah why'd this chapter genuinely get me good? Laying out a premise for West, setting up the politics, introducing a likeable boss, then making me believe he was genuinely boutta die, only to realize the kidnappers are familiar homies??
- Boss Burr also likes driving (riding), I feel.
- Kidnapping people to ally with them is like roofieing someone to safely tuck them into bed. I approve neither.

Dogass finds his crew through the Mist in a war-torn land, then goes to lobby to serve some King. None of that is relevant to my insight: the way Dogass and crew investigated the dead bodies was like a superior version of that one crime scene investigation in Fast and Furious (4).

Last chapter spent glazing teachers, thanks Rick. Seema Hera Aunty also returned also to glaze herself for a job well done (while demonstrating she accomplished squat). Thanks.

The way Annabeth called Rachel "mortal girl", I imagined she said it like a racial slur. Not very Disney-friendly, I'd say.

Flying with the wings reminds me of my recurrent dream where I suddenly start floating and can't stop going up until I learn to make my body horizontal. Anyways this chapter had some very particularly LOST stuff.

Sigmalus really was just allowed at the camp without a thorough vetting process. This guy's history involved hiding in the showers! This is my one and only concern here. Think of the children.

Rick Riordan not only watched Gladiator (2000) with the thumbs down and also the line about being entertained. Crazy man also time traveled to watch Marty Supreme (2025) and write a game between a white boy and a Japanese boy.

Why was Daedalus waiting in the showers while Minos was being bathed? Easy, he was tryna cop a glimpse of Minos's Menis.

Also Page 227: "A bunch of other kids crowded around me and clapped me..." Didn't know this was THAT type of camp.

I can appreciate that Percy couldn't compute how Athena had children without being married. This his "kilogram of steel/kilogram of feathers" moment.

Naiad SLAMS Percy for being a nepo baby.

I really like the way this story feels like it's chasing the shadows of another generation of Poseidon's kid.

I still stand by Eurytion and Geryon being played by Tim Robinson and Connor O'Malley. Unhinged guys whose farm is like The Continental in John Wick (NO KILLING). I liked the Minos reveal and the soul mystery being alive. I wonder if Sigmus is missing a soul somehow.

Kampe is Mr X from Resident Evil 2.
Briares would be really exciting to depict visually.
Cyclopes ability to mimic voices might become important later.
Briares not coming out of jail even when Tyson pries the bars. This is like Hera with Annabeth and Percy. Can only open the way, not push them out.
Percy cheating with the gun: foreshadowing. His cheating can defy the fates. Break the rules, save the world.

Last time I called my baddie queen Hera Seema Aunty. While I may still say that, I also think she's very interesting.

She represents a god's willingness to set someone down their destiny. I think it's cool when someone is told an answer is within them, they act based on what they think the answer is, but are never told whether their "answer" is right.

Nico be like "pour one out for my boys" but it's Coke.

Bruh this book Lost-ing me by introducing new wrinkles just after it threw breadcrumbs leading me one direction.

Bringing Theseus through the iris (strangely conveniently available and presenting views of events we simply assume to be "live" from past stories) just proved Ricky is not fucking around with his storytelling engine. Epic.

Lil Latino demigods eh? Looking at Poseidon's kid, some woman named Mary? And then the story of the boy, Daedalus, the King, and the daughter? Is Sigmus the boy? And is the boy an important guy?

It's been too long so I decided to start over. I'm now hoping Sigmus might be Greek J Robert Oppenheimer. That guy is American Prometheus.

I don't think dude was ever a soldier though, but it'd be wild to have a Titan who defied the gods then proceed to go against the Titans.

Genuinely shocked at how the last chapters of this crazy book don't end in setpieces. Instead it's all rooted in reflection and conversation. That, and a surprisingly fitting reveal that recontextualizes the catalyst of this franchise. Overall it hammers home that this really is an epic.

The tendrils of destiny work in mysterious ways but some manipulators have a heavy hand in it. Though, maybe not control of it.

I have a few chapters left. So far, these closing chapters are executed with such buttery smoothness, it's insane how climactic the moments feel post-setpieces. Voting on new Wall leaders, proposals from Melisandre/Stannis, and a story that begins in the bowels of King's Landing and ends with the emptying of bowels.

Valar morghulis, valar dohaeris. And so the H'ghar coin comes to use. The Hound gives me a deeply profound sadness because he really encapsulates the desire to suffer for all he's done. I love that stuff.

I honestly have less recollection of this part of the story so idk if I just forgot what was in the show or if it was a significant divergence from the book. Either way, Jon and Mance story went sicko mode.

Jaime's quieter chapter kinda stunned me with how fitting and satisfying his development ends up being. His attempts to reconcile being noble with being Kingslayer and Lannister is surprisingly really really deep.

Dany finds out it's lonely at the top and also that it lowkey hard to rule. Her plan to rule a city before she can rule a kingdom is the kinda self-doubt type mindset I understand deeply.

Dang the Shae + Mountain and the Viper chapter is just a masterclass. Incredible dialogue, silky smooth action, and fantastic tension. Learning the Martell+Lannister moms' backstories is fascinating, we all are just puppets to the fates our family names bind us to.
