I’ve read reviews of people saying this book is slandering Irish Catholics and the IRA, but I am finding it to be quite the opposite. I’ve found it, inspirational to say the least. The violence is horrendous, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t inspired by the young people who joined the IRA and were some of the most radical against the oppressive government. Unfortunately relatable in 2026.

Ugh I love this book, did not expect it to rip my heart out and to shed actual tears.

So far, I am struggling with the writing style. There seems to be lots of descriptions and imagery that is unneeded, and then in areas where some conceptual imagery would make sense, it was lacking. The dialogue between the human characters reads as cheesy and cliche. Almost as if the author hasn’t spent much time talking to real humans. But now that I’m 74 pages in, I’m feeling hooked on the animals viewpoints
