This book makes me want to pick up writing again

Why is there so much mentioning of bum smacking in this book tho

Reading this to my daughter while she's falling asleep, I'm sure I'll finish it within 5 years 🤣

The next chapter is called "Rise of the Fascists".. hmmmm

Loving the little details I missed on the first read! And I'm understanding the poems at the start of each chapter.

Still not super drawn in, but enjoying following Julien's journey through the upper echelons of French society.

Also liking the subtle irony and hypocrisy sprinkled through the story. It's not too in your face which I appreciate.

A little bit of binge reading but not as much as I anticipated.
Honestly I don't really ship Chaol and Celaena, he's too close to the king and I don't trust him. Interested to see what Nehemia plotting.
Overall happy with the story, pace and character development. Glad that not every chapter ends on a cliff hanger, otherwise it gets a bit predictable.

Chapter 3
Exploring tariffs as a solution before the market crashes further... Hmm sounds a bit too familiar

Love the vampire lore and the different "rules" in this universe.
Anne Rice is nailing world building and character development already.
Not super sucked in (lol unintentional pun) but enjoying it.

Chapter 2 reflections
Interesting how interwoven the US/ EU markets are, and why there's often a domino effect when one fails. Also I thought Hoover was universally hated but he seemed pretty sensible in all honesty

I'm fluctuating between "meh" and "kinda interested" at the moment. I'm not a huge fan of any of the characters, but they are very well written and there's a bit of drama brewing which will keep me going. When I think of this book, "a comedy of errors" comes to mind.

Look it's a bit cringey and predictable but the last few chapters have absolutely drawn me in and I think I'm gonna end up binge reading it over the next few days.
The trashy romantasy storytelling gets me every time.

Thoughts on Chapters 1-4: Burdett's writing is fantastic, very immersive. Liking the characters so far, even if they are a tad immoral.

Chapter 1 reflections:
Damn the stock market in the 1920s was the wild West! Completely unregulated with greed and deception the key foundations.
