Fair

I expected to live it more. It was amazing how much she learned and how far she came in the world. However, it is not on the top of my list for best books I have read.

It's hard to imagine that a novel with images of trains, railroads, bridges and water would not be loaded with enough meaning and imagery to move the reader beyond the surface where the real treasure resides. Looking forward to experiencing all that this author shares. Participating in The Big Read is surely one of the best choices I've made so far in 2014.

It is quotes like this one that make me love this book: "You feel insecure, jealous, confused-how much power you give those emotions is entirely up to you. "

"Learning and Living. But they are really the same thing, aren't they? There is no experience from which you can't learn something. When you stop learning you stop living in any vital and meaningful sense."

Finally...guess I'll join the ranks of all who have loved it

Didn't finish which is rare for me. The characters were exhausting and while I recognize the quality of his writing and his talent for creating and developing his characters, I do not need to be "beaten over the head" with their predictable actions which seemed pointless in the scheme of things.
