At 70% this audio book is still wandering around in the desert.

This plot involves a lot of suspended disbelief.

I've also read her debut novel and this one was better but needed a better editor. It definitely feels like it was trying to capitalize on Nine Perfect Strangers fans.

Very slow... not sure I will get through this one.

Slow going so far.

I feel like I know where this is going to end from the second chapter...

22 minutes in and I can see we will have an unreliable narrator AND this dude is a creep.

1st time reading this author.
Finding this a hard slog...

Started strong, but the plot is lagging.

"All love was humiliation...All love was someone breaking their soul into smaller pieces, and offering the broken pieces of themselves as a puzzle to someone else: Help me put myself back together."

Reading a book for the second time in 6 years always gives me something new to appreciate.

This book has many themes: suicide, World War II, teenage bullying, Buddhism. The second time around the bullying is less shocking. The description of students forced by the Japanese military to be suicide bombers is unbearably sad.
