Ok, finding out the the US military spread lies and rumors about North Koreans and Soviets circling Jeju Island in order to justify a complete occupation and repression of activists and then straight up didn’t count any votes from Jeju (and brutally prevented people from voting in the first place) and then instilled the American’s choice of president…sickening. And we think we’re the heroes??

I love this book and I hate America.

The protagonist’s name is Young-Sook which is the name of the sweet old woman who owned the hot dog stand I frequented in Korea and she invited me to her house once and we ate watermelon, makes me so nostalgic.

The last half of this book either should be more exciting or omitted entirely.
