"We have all things in Christ, and Christ is all things to a Christian...
If we be sick, he is a physician;
if we thirst, he is a fountain;
if our sins trouble us, he is righteousness;
if we stand in need of help, he is mighty to save;
if we fear death, he is life;
if we be in darkness, he is light;
if we be weak, he is strength;
if we be in poverty, he is plenty;
if we desire heaven, he is the way."

"I remember a story of a godly man, who had a great desire to go to France, and as he was going to take shipping he broke his leg; and it pleased Providence so to order it, that the ship that he should have gone in at that very same time was cast away, and not a man was saved; and so by breaking a bone his life was saved...Though Providence did work cross to his desire, yet it did not work cross to his good."

"When I daily admit how needy I am, daily meditate on the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and daily feed on the restorative wisdom of his Word, I am propelled to share with others the grace that I am daily receiving at hands of my Savior. There simply is no set of exegetical, homiletical, or leadership skills that can compensate for the absence of this [devotion] in the life of a pastor."

"Since seminary tends to academize the faith, making it a world of ideas to be mastered...it is quite easy for students to buy into the belief that biblical maturity is about the precision of theological knowledge and the completeness of their biblical literacy. ... But it must be said that maturity is not merely something you do with your mind...no, maturity is about how you live your life."

A much needed reminder.

"The question of the book of Job is posed in its very beginning. Is it possible that a man or woman can come to love God for Himself alone so that there is a fundamental contentment in life regardless of circumstances (Job 1:9)? By the end of the book we see the answer. Yes, this is possible, but only through prayer."

This was a timely quote the Lord knew my hard heart needed in this season...

"The more the soul is filled with the fullness of God and enriched with spiritual and heavenly things, the less room there is in that soul for vain thoughts. The fuller the vessel is of wine, the less room there is for water. Oh, then, lay up much of God, of Christ, of precious promises, and choice experiences in your hearts, and then you will be less troubled with vain thoughts."

"In the glorious gospel, Jesus, with His meritorious righteousness and His great salvation, is freely and wholly and particularly offered to you as a lost sinner of mankind; and the unlimited and authentic offer affords you a right to receive and trust in Him for complete salvation."

"Since God is an infinite God, His worship is infinitely interesting. We can never plumb the depths of who He is nor ever exhaust the stores of His goodness, grace, and glory. Worship is the grand exploration and exaltation of who God is. If the moment of worship seems dull to us, the fault lies with us, not with God."

"Is it then the believer's desire that he may make swift progress in the habit and exercise of that living faith by which he gives glory to God and receives grace and glory from Him? Let him, in humble reliance on the promise and on the Spirit of faith, read, hear, and meditate frequently on the glorious gospel."

"Ah, what a sea of blood, of wrath, of sin, of sorrow and misery, did the Lord Jesus wade through for your internal & eternal good! Christ did not plead, this cross is too heavy for me to bear; this wrath is too great for me to lie under; this cup, [with] all the ingredients of divine displeasure, is too bitter for me; No, Christ pleads not the difficulty of the service, but resolutely and bravely wades through all"

21:33-46

Bummed that Ryle didn't make a connection from Matt. 21:38 to Gen. 37:18-20... tenants say "come let us kill him" when the master's son in the parable goes to the field parallels Joseph's brothers when he goes out to them in the field. Foreshadowing Christ's death at the hands of the 'tenants' of Jerusalem (chief priests, Pharisees, etc.) who seek to kill the Son when he comes to them
