The fête is literally just prom. All the commotion and cheating and scandals could totally be reproduced in a high school setting

Stavrogin has mentioned revealing his marriage so often that I forgot he hadn’t told everyone, so it felt kind of anticlimactic

Stavrogin sucks too. I know that the whole premise is that everyone is a bad person but they just keep outdoing one another. Not super surprising what he has revealed in his letter because thus far he has acted so sadistic. I’m wondering if anyone will receive consequence for their actions

This book just got really interesting. I’m glad that it’s kind of giving similar vibes to Crime & Punishment in that it’s descriptions of the state of the world are so similar our world today. Shigalyov’s system is scarily accurate to our current society. On a side note, Peter is the ultimate manipulative boyfriend for Stavrogin.

I honestly don’t remember my current page number but I think my brain is finally starting to click and enjoy the book. Stavrogin is the focal point, and I know he’s gonna explode soon. Reminds me of Ledger’s Joker. He’s cynical. He hasn’t let himself laugh yet. Literally. It’s crazy. I also kind of want to rush to the end so I can start The Brothers Karamazov

So many characters. I like how the full picture is starting to develop, the more I read the more I’m able to piece together the events from the beginning which had initially confused me or felt unimportant. Stavrovin’s rejection of Dasha made his whole interaction with the convict (I forget his name) from the night before make a lot more sense.

But right now you're here, and looking up at the moon: why should you care about what you did there and if they'll think of you with disgust for a thousand years?
Isn't that right?'
I don't know,' Kirillov replied. 'I haven't been to the moon,' he added without any irony, merely to establish the fact.

you basically need to know basic French to understand Stepan because there aren’t footnotes for all of his French phrases… however it’s finally starting to pick up. Krillov sucks ass, I like the narrator’s opinions way more: Don’t kys, ass2fat. There are so many characters too with freaking nicknames it’s kind of confusing

Had to recruit Schuyler to help translate some French…realllllyyyy wish the book had footnotes on every page like Crime & Punishment for all the French and Russian societal references rather than an index in the back that you have to flip back and forth between.

I think I read like ten pages and forgot it in my apartment so I am eagerly awaiting my return to Purdue to continue this book. Though it seems like I haven’t read anything this winter, I have been on the comics GRIND. I have read four Omnibuses and four single issue comics. However due to my own laziness (as listed in my bio), I have not listed any of them here.

I wished sometimes to shake off all thought and feeling, but I learned that there was but one means to overcome the sensation of pain, and that was death — a state which I feared yet did not understand.

“If the study to which you apply yourself has a tendency to weaken your affections and to destroy your taste for those simple pleasures in which no alloy can possibly mix, then that study is certainly unlawful, that to say, not befitting of the human mind.”
