I really forgot how drawn out the timeline is in the books. I almost think I like it better this way; especially given how nonchalant Tolkien is about the passage of time.

Love it thus far. Wish Laura was a bit of a stronger protagonist though. It feels like she’s almost on the sidelines of her own life and things are happening to her and around her. Bit of a shame really.

Who knew that downloading the kindle app on my phone would actually make me read more 🙃 but even though the prose takes some getting used to, the world-building is thin to the point of confusion at times, and the vocabulary is next level, the story is charming, the characters are compelling and the author’s voice is at once surprisingly funny and oddly beautiful. I’m invested.
