1. Not ready for this book to end. 2. Holy heck I can’t believe Ana did that, like I get that she has history but it might have been illegal for her to do that????

Fantasy Sherlock Holmes with a streak of melancholy that really ties it all together beautifully and adds much needed depth.

*Mild Spoilers for Ch. 19-20*
I've boarded the DinxStrovi ship and I reaaalllyyy hope he doesn't turn out to be a bad guy that breaks his heart, or gets himself killed and breaks his heart. Also, not sure how I feel about Din's almost deus-ex-machina in the fight. I wish it had some more foregrounding in the first half of the book, or used scent as a trigger instead of what appears to have been fear/stress/context.

Can't believe I'm already almost half way through. It feels like we just got started!

Reading it now gives me such a greater appreciation of just how good the adaptation into a movie these books were.

I really forgot how drawn out the timeline is in the books. I almost think I like it better this way; especially given how nonchalant Tolkien is about the passage of time.

Love it thus far. Wish Laura was a bit of a stronger protagonist though. It feels like she’s almost on the sidelines of her own life and things are happening to her and around her. Bit of a shame really.

Who knew that downloading the kindle app on my phone would actually make me read more 🙃 but even though the prose takes some getting used to, the world-building is thin to the point of confusion at times, and the vocabulary is next level, the story is charming, the characters are compelling and the author’s voice is at once surprisingly funny and oddly beautiful. I’m invested.
