Finally decided to finish this run. Not sure what held me back, maybe in some strange way I thought that if I left it be that I would never really have to see such a great story end. But it was always bugging me that I hadn’t read the conclusion. It’s a special run to my son and I because it really got him into comics and this book marks the spot that he got ahead of me reading a story.

200 pages in and it’s pure awesomeness. Then combo of Louise Simonson on the story and Walter Simonson on art is just superb when we are treated to that combo. Walt’s X-Factor is what springs to mind when I think of this era.

Picked this back up after a couple of weeks and it felt like coming back to some familiar friends. Knowing where the team ends up as a 90’s X-men kid I can’t help but be a little sad. The New Mutants is just so good overall that I think it’s one of my favorite books as well as teams.

I read the main story and am now on the short one-shots feature individual match up’s. It feels like the comic equivalent of a popcorn flick. It’s nowhere near as good as the Claremont era X-men storytelling or the more recent Hickman era. It wants to paint itself as ambitious, but it’s really just an excuse to have gorgeously drawn panels of heroes fighting gone another. Entertaining, but lacking substance.

This book is great. It’s a bit sad, but not bleak or without hope. Despite being a bit on the predictable side, the second story really hits hard. The fact that I could see where’d things were going almost made it worse. I wanted to be able to shout at the characters, tell them to stop before they made the mistakes, but like the old man telling the story we can’t change what happens in his past

So brutal. I’ve never read this crossover story (it’s the first major X-line crossover), and it starts off with a bang and has kept me on edge. This omnibus is great thus far.

This book has been great. I started reading The New Mutants Omnibus concurrently so that I could get an idea of the whole picture when those titles intersected and haven't been disappointed. Peak X-Men and peak Claremont. I'm loving these!

This collection has started off well. Claremont was at his peak here and just a few issues in he’s already set up some story hooks that I he can play with long term as he does and we’re just starting to see the students’ personalities come out.
