mid-term break:
-genuinely devastating
-that final line is horrifying “four feet, one foot for every year.” literally bone chilling.
- based on heaney’s brothers death; makes it even more heartbreaking.
- 5/5, my favourite yet i think?

follower:
- reminds me of cats in the cradle
- father son relationships in poetry never fail to make me distraught
- made me reflect on how age is inevitable, and how many regress in old age.
- rhyme scheme?
-4/5

blackberry picking:
- nice poem, enjoy the contradiction of the violent/gory language used with the fond childhood memory that is being recounted by heaney/the speaker; represents the loss of childhood joy, simplicity and innocence.
-almost erotic in its language at points but idk if anyone else thought that.
-my least fav of the three so far, which is surprising bc it reminds me of strawberries by edwin morgan.

death of a naturalist:
- incredible poem i just think i’m too stupid for it or its far too hot for me to actually compute anything right now.
- enjoyed the naturalist referring to childhood wonder and curiosity, and the corruption of man’s relationship/connection to nature.
- i personally preferred digging, but i prefer poetry abt people.
- still 5/5 tho

rediscovering my love of poetry- annotating as i go through! just finished digging, and i truly love the way heaney presents the change of the role of men in society and in his own family through the idea of ‘digging’ (peat digging, gardening and digging philosophically/emotionally). 5/5 so far love u seamus heaney
