I’m thoroughly unimpressed by where the story is going. It feels like it is dark and grim for edginess sake instead of for any interesting reason.

Part 1 is so tropey and boring. The book thinks it’s cooler than it actually is. Only finishing chapter 10 do they say something that sparks my interest. Turn him into a Gold? Boring. Surgically attach wings to him to change his race/class? Now THATS something at least.

When the narrator opens the door and sees himself😳

I really should’ve seen this coming, but apparently I don’t know anything about this book and it’s already stellar

Theron, you did it. All of the grammar bits you use are in this book.

I’m a little confused about Sarai. She goes from convincing Elena that the dreams and the Ship Log is real and then immediately shuts Jesse down when he decides to act on it. Huh? Why would she do both? I can understand why she doesn’t want him to go, but also prove that it’s all real and important? It’s just a little wierd. Also Jesse’s motivations are wierd, if he doesn’t want to go, why not run away?

I’m enjoying the introduction to this book. I am very intrigued by the messages of the Sea Wizard and curious how Jesse will manage to sort out his problems. The prose is so far a little bit wonky, but it could also just be that I am expecting a more classical style because of the other books Ive been reading lately. It’s not bad by any means, just not super flowery.

Eowyn is an interesting example of a strong woman. Though she is treated as “lesser” by the men who rule, she leads with power and grace. Her biggest fear is to be trapped under the feminine traditions, which she feels do not represent her well. Aragorn does well to refute her because of her duty, not because she is a woman. I’m sure there’s a better explanation than this.
