These stories aren't horrifying or shocking, even when they're intended to be. They're just boring.
Props to M.L. Roos for writing a story where an angel rapes a pedophile while wearing a Rapex condom and make it the dullest story in the collection before I gave up.

Second time reading it this year, but it's for a class this time.

So this is a BOTM selection that I haven't gotten to yet, but I just read an absolutely scathing review and I have to know if it's THAT bad.

(Given that the author is on record as "fixing" Rebecca with this book, I'm guessing it is, tbh. This is not a good-faith read, but I may be pleasantly surprised.)

The way hooks shit-talks both divorce and Minica Lewinsky in this chapter is incredibly off-putting, and that's AFTER powering through all the religious nonsense.

I've never really been a guy for cozy mysteries, but turns out if you cross cozies with Redwall, I am utterly charmed. The raven runs a bookstore called Nevermore, and her name is Lenore! Joe the moose runs the coffeeshop!

the first-person 14 year old boy narrator is making this annoying as hell to slog through.

I did this. I went here. It looked like this. Here's more irrelevant and excruciating detail, adding nothing of interest. This happened, and I did that.

Really disappointed, because I remember a lot of people were really into this when it first came out, which is why I bought it in the first place, but it's so excruciatingly tedious to read that I quit as soon as I hit page 50.
