"Metaphor" is incorrectly defined in chapter 3.🤦

The white guy narrator uses a fake “black voice” for the black guy character. Gross!

The guy narrator mispronounces words and whitewashes a character whose storyline is to actively not whitewash a character. The author did well in writing the story, but the production team & guy narrator have failed the audience. Disgusting.

The ending: WOW!

It seems like the location of the story is at least a bit relevant, but there's nothing in the story that says the country, or even the continent. This lapse in information/incomplete description is confusing & makes the story a bit difficult to follow & annoying to read. This is definitely going to bring the rating down.

Well-written, easy to understand, "enjoyable" given the emotionally challenging content, and extremely important for all North American kids to read!!! Plus, there are versions of this book available for all levels of comprehension! Definitely 5🌟!!!

Protagonist's "preacher" father talks about Jesus & says he hears Him, but "preacher" doesn't believe whole Bible: not keen on forgiveness & free will (I'm a "both together" person on free will and predestination myself), & hates music & science. [His car IS science??!] This "preacher" is NOT following Jesus well. If I get past page 28 (my usual stopping page), it'll be a surprise to me, maybe even a miracle.

Yes. Maybe that's the point of fathers. They're people that show you things.

Catholic themes throughout. Very good writing. Interesting story. There's a library in this book, and the characters have discovered it!!! I love Perrote in this part of the story - any book nerd can relate! All the feels!!!
