Jays death was depressing and meaningless

Paul’s encounter and subsequent killing of the French soldier whist lost in the shell holes was very sad shedding a light into the sympathy Paul shares for the other soldiers.

Favorites are tjaden and muller. The descriptions of the gruesome violence is hard to forget.
