Reading the accents is tiring. I feel for Sayers because she must want to show off her knowledge of the region that she studied so hard, but I do not care that much :( so this is a little boring to me, but I'll push through for the characters.

Reading as an ebook through Libby - so far this is already richer than Strong Poison. I love the immediate immersion in the location through vivid distinctions and clear conversation dynamics. Excited to keep going.

Very interesting that Peter Winsey really does next to nothing other than knowing the right people and having money to manipulate them. Love that Sayers' promotes womens' superiority and independence in this way.

I understand why film adaptations aren't faithful to the book. This is a tough sell without simplified fun horror in this day and age.

Frankenstein bothers me so much in the way that men do. He was intelligent enough to create his monster, but then not to prevent further death. Is this just a condemnation of the thoughtless evil and determined cowardice of man?

Having so many thoughts about undertones in this book, such as the effect of a son's mother's passing, neglect of women by men, the pursuit of knowledge a la the Tower of Babel....

I'm reading the version with an introduction by Wendy Lesser for the 1831 text, so I read more than 7% today. I completely forgot about the third perspective of the voyager, I really don't remember this at all so it's very interesting. I appreciate the resources included before the actual text, such as the timeline of relevant events and literature coinciding with this novel.

(Spoiler) I really dislike the way Sadie/Walt/Anubis was handled. I saw it coming the whole time and Sadie's initial reaction was so dumb, especially because just a little bit later she says to Carter (re Zia), oh, we've hosted gods before too, no big deal.

Bruh.

If they didn't spend time redescribing characters or events every couple pages, this book could be a loooot shorter.

Really getting tired of someone mentioning something important, avoiding the topic further, and Sadie and Carter just being okay with it. Super lame at this point.

Okay, I really like the plot. Is Walt going to sacrifice himself to read the spell to summon Ra? How do they drag this story out for a third book?? So many questions to be answered or left unanswered in a span of not that many pages.

This book is a much more enjoyable read on the treadmill. I like that it delves more into Sadie and Carter's individual paths, as the "we have to defeat someone with only 5 minutes to spare" is kind of tired already.

Struggling to get through this one :/ lots of details for little payoff. Wish these were a bit shorter.

Easy to read but long. Who knows how much I'll still like it, if I'll want to read the rest of the series.

Insufferable match they are. Pg 360, left my bookmark elsewhere.
