Still struggling for it to capture me. I feel like there’s a moment of break through and the story sucks me in and I can’t put it down, but then all of a sudden I’m drowning in poetic metaphors as Scott Lynch painfully introduces and describes new parts of the world. After reading 80% of the book I’d like to be able to easily follow what is going on rather than still being introduced to new aspects.

It’s not the easiest read. A lot of detail about how the city and other aspects look or “feel” in place of what I would call “a real hook of a story”. It has moments of catching me where I feel drawn in and excited to read more but then I go into the next section and feel overwhelmed by the detail. I see the underlying story but often feel sidetracked by “side missions” that feel like they offer little

I’m enjoying it although it’s a slower build than I’m used to. Patrick definitely takes time describing and building the world. While I have a glimpse of what the story is going to be about, we haven’t yet experienced anything of what Kvothe is capable of and find this protagonist to still be getting metaphorically whipped this far into the story.

Still feels like I’m just reading a biography. And not an upper interesting one at that.

I’m still waiting for the “hook” that grabs me and makes me want to keep reading. Feels a bit like I’m reading a book “about nothing”.
